NWFL Premiership resumes after festive break

The 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership resumes after Christmas and New Year break on Wednesday, January 7, 2025.

Matchday five features South South derby between Ibom Angels and Bayelsa Queens as teams continue their quest to qualify for Super Six and also keep their league status intact.

Group A

Adamawa Queens vs Rivers Angels

In Makwada, Adamawa Queens host Rivers Angels hoping to recover from their first ever loss of the season.

They have won two of their first four games with a draw and loss.

The Northern side faces Port Harcourt based side which have won all their three games.

Last season, Rivers Angels completed a double over their opponents with 8-1 aggregate scoreline.

Ibom Angels vs Bayelsa Queens

Holders, Bayelsa Queens take a short trip to meet their South South neighbours, Ibom Angels.

The host could only boast of a win, draw and two losses after four games.

The Prosperity Girls on the other hand have won all their three matches thus far.

Ogbonda Whyte’s side have won two of the last three league meetings between both sides with the last encounter ending 3-0 last season after a 0-0 draw in Uyo.

Ekiti Queens vs Naija Ratels FC

This will be the first meeting between the two teams without a win in the league.

Ekiti Queens have lost two and drawn one of their three matches with hope of ending their winless run here in front of their home crowd.

Naija Ratels FC on the other hand almost ended their winless record in the last hame of they year but surrendered a 2-0 lead against Heartland Queens in Abuja.

Pacesetter Queens vs Heartland Queens

In another first ever meeting, debutants, Pacesetter Queens welcome Heartland Queens to Ibadan.

The host have lost all their four games and remained the only team in the league without a point.

It has been a baptism of fire for the Ibadan based side in their first ever top flight campaign.

Their opponents, Heartland Queens have won a match, drawn one and lost one of their three games.

Group B

Confluence Queens vs Osun Babes

For the first time since 2021/22 season both sides face off again in the league.

It was a 0-0 draw when both sides last met after Confluence secured a 1-0 win in Osogbo.

Confluence Queens have lost their last three games after a 2-2 draw with Abia Angels in the league opener.

Osun Babes with a win, two draws, and a loss hope to get their second victory here albeit their first on the road.

Delta Queens vs Dannaz Ladies

For the first time in top flight history, Delta Queens and Dannaz Ladies trade tackles.

In their third straight season, the Lagos based side will have a feel of Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba against the former league winners.

With losses in their last two games after going unbeaten in their first two, the Lagos based side aim to return to their positive form.

Similarly, Delta Queens have won one, drawn one and lost two of their last four games with a win here set to trigger motivations for the host.

Remo Stars vs Nasarawa Amazons

The Sky Blue Stars Ladies host last season’s runners up, Nasarawa Amazons in Ikenne.

Both unbeaten with the same record of two wins and two draws, this promises to be an intriguing contest.

Three times they met in the league last season with both sides picking a win apiece.

The last meeting between the two teams during last season’s Super Six in Ikenne ended in a 0-0 draw.

FC Robo Queens vs Ahudiyannem Queens

Another first ever meeting in the top flight sees Ahudiyannem Queens against indomitable FC Robo Queens.

The Lagos Landladies have enjoyed a dream start to the season with four straight wins, the longest in the current campaign.

Their visitors searches for their first ever win with a daunting task after two draws and two losses.

Abia Angels vs Sunshine Queens

Abia Angels and Sunshine Queens aim to get their second win of the campaign here.

They have both won a match, drawn two and lost the other of their four games.

Their last three meetings in the league have been keenly contested matches.

A 1-1 draw surfaced during the 2021/22 season in Akure before Abia Angels edged them 1-0.

A previous encounter during 2020/21 season ended 1-0 in favour of Sunshine Queens away from home.
