Kaizer Chiefs Lead Race for Super Eagles Star Stanley Nwabali

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly closing in on Nigerian international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, as interest in the shot-stopper heats up ahead of the summer transfer window.

Despite speculation linking him with a move to Europe, a switch appears unlikely at this stage. Nwabali has been without a club since parting ways with Chippa United in January, following 66 league appearances during his time with the South African side.

According to Peterside Idah, Kaizer Chiefs’ pursuit of the goalkeeper is genuine and could soon materialise. The Soweto giants had previously shown interest after Nwabali’s standout performances for Nigeria at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where he played a key role in helping the Super Eagles reach the final.

However, Kaizer Chiefs are not alone in the race. Tanzanian side Simba SC and Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Casablanca are also believed to be monitoring the situation closely.

Speaking to Sportsboom, Idah hinted that a move to South Africa could be financially attractive for Nwabali, suggesting that top clubs like Kaizer Chiefs are capable of offering lucrative deals.

He emphasized that Chiefs, along with Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, form South Africa’s “Big Three,” with the financial muscle to comfortably meet players’ wage demands.

Idah even claimed that South African clubs can pay as much as $50,000 per month—and potentially up to $100,000 in Nwabali’s case—figures that could outweigh lower-paying opportunities in parts of Europe.

With negotiations reportedly ongoing, Nwabali’s next move could hinge not only on sporting ambition but also long-term financial security.
