Jagunmolu Queens Crowned Champions After Penalty Shootout Drama in Kwara Pre-Season Tournament

Jagunmolu Queens of Ogun State emerged champions of the Kwara First Lady Pre-Season Championship after a tense 3-1 penalty shootout victory over hosts Kwara United Queens in a thrilling final.

The highly anticipated showdown took place at the KFA Golden Pitch, George Innih Stadium in Ilorin on Friday, delivering excitement and drama for fans and dignitaries in attendance.

Kwara United Queens dominated the first half, creating several scoring opportunities but failing to convert. Their attacking efforts were repeatedly thwarted by the solid Jagunmolu defence and an outstanding performance from the goalkeeper. The hosts struck the woodwork three times, underlining their frustration in front of goal.

Tolu Omoniyi came closest to breaking the deadlock, hitting the base of the post. Mariam Shittu impressed on the right wing, forcing a brilliant save, while Adaize Ruth also saw her close-range effort denied.

Despite the sustained pressure, Jagunmolu Queens held firm, ensuring the match ended goalless at full time and proceeded to penalties.

In the shootout, Jagunmolu Queens displayed remarkable composure, converting their chances to secure a 3-1 victory and lift the trophy.

Earlier in the day, FUOYE Dazzlers claimed third place after edging Wazbak Queens 6-5 in another penalty shootout.

As champions, Jagunmolu Queens received ₦250,000, while runners-up Kwara United Queens were awarded ₦200,000. FUOYE Dazzlers earned ₦100,000 for finishing third.

The tournament, organized by Ultimate Sports Consult in collaboration with the Kwara State Sports Commission and Enact Innovation Hubs, is aimed at discovering grassroots talent and promoting the development of girls in sports.

The final attracted top dignitaries and football enthusiasts, rounding off a memorable competition filled with talent and competitive spirit.
