NFCA Hails NPFL, NFF for Stability and Progress in 2025/26 Season

The Nigeria Football Coaches Association (NFCA) has praised the leadership of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) board, headed by Gbenga Elegbeleye, along with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), for what it described as significant administrative progress and improved structural stability in the ongoing 2025/26 season.

In a statement released as the league enters its final phase, the NFCA highlighted the successful completion of fixtures up to Matchday 35 without any outstanding games—an achievement it says reflects a new level of discipline, coordination, and effective planning in Nigeria’s top-flight league.

With just three matches remaining, the coaches’ body commended the NPFL’s adherence to a consistent competition calendar that aligns with continental schedules. This marks a sharp improvement from previous seasons, which were frequently disrupted by fixture congestion and inconsistencies.

The NFCA also applauded the NPFL board’s leadership for its ability to navigate operational and administrative challenges without compromising the integrity of the competition. It noted that this proactive and measured approach has been key to ensuring a smooth and credible campaign.

The role of the NFF was equally acknowledged, particularly in its oversight functions and commitment to development initiatives. According to the NFCA, ongoing efforts to improve coaching standards, as well as refereeing performance and welfare, are already yielding positive results and contributing to a higher quality of play.

On the pitch, the association observed a noticeable increase in competitiveness across the league. Both the title race and relegation battle remain open, while a rise in away wins, the emergence of young talents, and a tightly contested top scorers’ chart point to growing technical and tactical depth.

The NFCA attributed these gains to deliberate governance reforms, improved planning, and stronger collaboration among key stakeholders. It also cited better matchday organization and increased confidence in officiating as indicators of the league’s upward trajectory.

Reaffirming its role as a critical technical stakeholder, the NFCA pledged continued support for the NPFL board while recognizing the NFF’s contributions to the league’s advancement. It stressed that sustained collaboration between administrative and technical bodies will be essential for long-term growth.

Looking ahead, the association urged stakeholders to remain focused on strategic priorities. These include stricter enforcement of club infrastructure standards, expanded television and broadcast coverage, adoption of a centralized football data system, and the effective use of end-of-season technical reports to guide future policies and performance improvements.

The NFCA expressed optimism that with continued commitment and reform, the NPFL can further close the gap with leading global leagues while strengthening its position within African football.
