Mutiu Adepoju Backs Resurgent Kelechi Iheanacho After Celtic Heroics

Former Nigerian international Mutiu Adepoju has expressed strong confidence in Kelechi Iheanacho’s resurgence, stating that the forward has successfully revived his career at Celtic F.C. and remains a key figure for the Super Eagles moving forward.
After a difficult spell that saw him fall out of favor with the national team, Iheanacho is rediscovering his form in Scotland. His revival was on full display at Hampden Park, where he played a decisive role in Celtic’s dramatic Scottish Cup semifinal win over St Mirren F.C..
The match itself was a rollercoaster encounter. St Mirren clawed their way back from a two-goal deficit to level the score at 2-2 and force extra time. But Celtic responded emphatically, unleashing a stunning four-goal burst in just six minutes.
Introduced as a substitute, Iheanacho turned the game on its head. He combined with Luke McCowan to restore Celtic’s dominance before grabbing his second goal to seal the victory. Benjamin Nygren then capped off the rout with his 20th goal of an impressive debut campaign.
This brace marks a remarkable turnaround for Iheanacho, who had only recently ended a six-month goal drought with a winner against Dundee F.C.. Despite injury setbacks this season, he has now recorded six goals in 16 appearances for Celtic.
Speaking to Footy-Africa, Adepoju—popularly known as “The Headmaster”—welcomed the striker’s return to form after a challenging stint with Sevilla FC.
“Kelechi has always been a very good player and a good scorer who has done very well over the years,” Adepoju said.
“Unfortunately, these past few years he has not been finding it easy. I’m happy that he is coming back and doing very well at Celtic. I just believe he will be able to sustain that and continue.”
