‘Football is a result-based game’ – Nigeria legend Okocha tasks NFF on Jose Peseiro

By Monsurah Olatunji

Football legend Jay Jay Okocha has offered his opinion on the current head coach of the Nigeria men’s national team, Jose Peseiro.
The Super Eagles have lost five of their last nine matches under the watch of the Portuguese, including a home defeat to 150th ranked Guinea Bissua and the Nigeria Football Federation are under pressure to extend his contract.
While reflecting on the Eagles’ series of poor run, Okocha, who just celebrated 30 years of his first call-up to the Senior national team, insists the NFF has the final say, stressing that that football is result oriented sports.
“Football is a result-based game, if a team is doing well, they get the reward and if not they get otherwise,” Okocha told media.
“If the coach is not doing well, his appointment will be in question. It is not in my place to advise the NFF what to do about Pesseiro’s contract, because they are there for a reason, they should take a wise decision and get it right.”
Nigeria will seek to seal their qualification bid to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations when they face off with Sierra Leone on June 12.
