Ahmed Musa Nears CSKA Moscow Return in Bid for World Cup Berth

In a strategic move to enhance his prospects of securing a spot in Nigeria’s squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Super Eagles winger Ahmed Musa is poised for a return to his former club, CSKA Moscow, in a loan deal expected to be finalized within the week.

Musa’s stint with Leicester City, marked by a high-profile move 18 months ago, has seen limited playing time, hindering his ability to secure a regular spot in the Foxes’ lineup. In the current season, he has yet to make an appearance for the former English Premier League champions, participating only in a couple of Carabao Cup matches and for the U-23 team.

The 25-year-old Nigerian international, who was notably absent from Leicester City’s squad during Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup fourth-round victory against Peterborough, is reportedly keen on returning to CSKA Moscow to rekindle his footballing prowess and boost his chances of making the Super Eagles’ World Cup squad.

Tony Harris, Musa’s representative, conveyed the imminent move, stating, “Most likely, the transfer will take place next week,” in response to inquiries about his client’s future.

Musa initially joined CSKA Moscow in January 2012 from Dutch club VVV Venlo, enjoying a fruitful four-year spell before embarking on his journey with Leicester City. The anticipated return to familiar territory is viewed as a strategic career move for Musa as he endeavors to make a compelling case for inclusion in Nigeria’s squad for the prestigious World Cup hosted by Russia.
