AFCON 2023: South Africa star Ronwen Williams anticipates facing Victor Osimhen

Following his heroic performance against Cape Verde, South Africa goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams is optimistic about facing reigning Africa Player of the Year Victor Osimhen in the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations on Friday.
Williams was the hero as South Africa edged out Cape Verde 2-1 in a tense penalty shootout to reach the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals where they will face Nigeria.
The Bafana Bafana goalkeeper saved four spot-kicks to send Hugo Broos’ team to their first AFCON semifinals in 23 years.
On the other hand, Osimhen has scored just one goal so far in this tournament but however his attacking prowess contributions can not be overlooked.
The Napoli man is every defender’s nightmare after winning the CAF Player of the Year award scoring 26 league goals to help his club win their first Scudetto in 33 years.
Meanwhile, with four straight clean sheets at the ongoing tournament in Ivory Coast, the goalkeepers for South Africa and Nigeria are in excellent form going into the much-awaited semifinal match.
Per All Nigeria Soccer, Williams expressed optimism both personally and for the team after he was asked about the prospect of facing reigning Africa Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen next.
“It’s special just to be part of the Africa Cup of Nations, seeing all these amazing African players playing in big teams in Europe, doing wonderful things so we are just glad we can show our worth as well as South Africans.
“We know it’s going to be a big one coming up so we need to prepare accordingly and we are looking forward to the challenge.”
