Aiki Nuhu Credits Motivation for Kebbi Fishers’ Consistency Ahead of NBSL Round 2

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Vice captain of Kebbi Fishers Beach Soccer Club (BSC), Aiki Nuhu, says strong motivation from management, the state government, and sponsors has been central to the team’s dominance in the Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL) since 2021.

The Birnin Kebbi-based side, ranked Africa’s No. 1 beach soccer club, has won three of the last four league titles (2021, 2023, 2024) and is targeting a historic third consecutive championship this season.

Speaking ahead of Round 2 of the 2025 NBSL in Nnewi, Anambra State (August 21–23), Nuhu expressed confidence in the squad’s preparation.

“My team is fully prepared for the sand battle in Nnewi. We’ve been in camp for a month preparing our mindset for the second round, though we know it will be challenging. Being the defending champions is tough, because every team dreams of beating us. But we are training harder to retain our title, and I believe God will see us through.” He told www.beachsoccer.ng

The Fishers are chasing a unique milestone—becoming the first team to win three straight league crowns.

“As the number one team in Africa, we’ve won three league titles, and it is our prayer that God makes it possible for us again this season to be crowned champions. We want history to repeat itself.”

Nuhu also highlighted the impact of support in the team’s sustained success.

“The big motivation we have is unity, backed by full support from the Kebbi State Government. They’ve given us 100% in terms of funds, advice, and direction—a big thumbs up to them. Our sponsor, Wacot Rice (Big Bull Rice), has also always been there for us, supporting with funds and supplies to keep us motivated. Their backing keeps smiles on our faces and pushes us to represent and defend the Kebbi Fishers’ name.”

The reigning champions will continue their title defense in Nnewi as the 2025 NBSL season heats up.
