By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigerian forward, Anam Imo proved to be the heroine as her strike secured a 1-0 win for Pitea IF against Vittsjo GIK in the Swedish Damallsvenskan match on Sunday.

Pitea had been on a bad run of three losses out of their previous five games with two wins against FC Rosengard (1-0) and Vaxjo DFF (5-2).

The visitors, on the other hand, have won four of their last five games with a 1-1 draw in their last match against BK Hacken on October 6.

In need of a win to put pressure on Linkopings FC which is occupying the final UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) spot, Stellan Karlsson’s side went in search of their first win in three games and were rewarded in the 75th minute.

Their top goal scorer this season, Imo rose to the occasion once again with the winning goal.

The former FC Rosengard player saw a full 90 minutes of action as she scored her 15th goal in the league, putting her second on the goal scorer chat, a goal behind Linkopings Cornelia Kapocs.

Her compatriot, Faith Micael also played the duration of the match for Pitea.

With the win, Pitea extended their unbeaten home record to six games.

The win moved Karlsson’s side to the fourth position on the log with 46 points after 23 games, five points behind Linkopings with three games left till the end of the season.

The team will next face IFK Norrkoping in the league on October 20.
