CAF African Schools Football Championship: Nigeria thrash Togo in WAFU-B opener

National Grammar School, Nike, Enugu State at the 2023 West African Zone B (WAFU-B) Finals of the 2023 CAF African Schools Championship got off to a flying start on Thursday.

The Nigeria’s representative defeated their Togolese counterparts 4-0 as the Zonal Finals commenced in Togo on Thursday.

The Nigerian representative emerged as National champions in early November in Abuja.

11 teams took part in the National finals from Yobe, Enugu, Plateau, Borno, Oyo, Ogun, Taraba, and Kwara States as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja in the U-15 competition.

In the female category, FOSLA Academy (the stellar football+education project of former NFF President, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi), emerged as champions of a three-team competition and is flying Nigeria’s flag in the female event.

Apart from Nigeria, four other teams from Benin Republic, Ghana, Cote D’Ivoire, and host, Togo are partaking in the four-day WAFU-B Zonal finals which will end on Saturday at the Stade Municipal de Kegue.

WAFU-B Zonal Finals is played in a round-robin format.

The winner of the Zonal Finals in Togo will represent the zone at the continental finals in April 2024.
