Cardiff City Secures Premier League Berth in Championship Finale; Hull and Reading Survive Relegation Threats

Cardiff City emerged triumphant in their quest for promotion to the Premier League, securing the coveted second automatic promotion spot in the English Championship with a goalless draw against Sone Aluko’s Reading on the final day of the season. The Welsh side joins Wolverhampton Wanderers, led by Carl Ikeme, who clinched the English Championship title.

The battle for the remaining promotion spot intensifies, with Fulham, Aston Villa, Derby County, and Middlesbrough poised to engage in a fierce contest during the upcoming play-offs.

In another fixture, Super Eagles defender Ola Aina made a significant impact, coming on for Ondrej Mazuch in the eighth minute as Hull City held Brentford to a 1-1 draw. Aina’s contribution marked his 42nd appearance in the English Championship for the Tigers.

Hull City concluded the season in the 18th position, accumulating 49 points from 46 games.

Meanwhile, at the Macron Stadium, Sammy Ameobi played a pivotal role in Bolton Wanderers’ 3-2 home victory over Nottingham Forest, securing Bolton’s safety in the division for the next season. This crucial win, coupled with defeats for Barnsley and Hope Akpan’s Burton Albion against Derby County and Preston North End (4-1 and 2-1, respectively), resulted in Burton Albion’s relegation to the third-tier league.

Burton Albion finished 23rd in the 24-team table with 41 points from 46 games. Bolton Wanderers clinched the 21st position, securing 43 points from 46 games—two points clear of the relegation zone.
