Delta Protests to NNL Over Stadium Vandalism by Wikki Tourists Fans

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Delta State Sports Commission has lodged a formal protest with the Nigeria National League (NNL) following violent incidents during the final of the 2025 NNL Super 8 playoffs at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.

The disruption occurred after Wikki Tourists FC fell behind 3-0 to Warri Wolves, leading to destructive behavior from Wikki supporters who vandalized stadium property, including pulling out and hurling plastic seats onto the pitch.

Commission chairman, Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori, condemned the actions and demanded that Wikki Tourists FC bear the cost of repairs.

He cited a pattern of similar misconduct from clubs and stressed the need for accountability to preserve the integrity of the sport.

The NNL has yet to issue an official statement, but an investigation is underway, with reports expected from match officials and stadium security.

The incident has cast a shadow over an otherwise well-organized tournament and raised questions about crowd control and league discipline moving forward.
