Delta Queens’ Taiwo Afolabi reacts after scoring first NWFL Premiership goal

Delta Queens midfielder Taiwo Afolabi says she was fulfilled to score her first Nigeria Women’s Football League Premiership goal when she struck late on in a 2-0 win against Naija Ratels.
Two week ago, the 15-year-old made her fourth start for Delta Queens and went on to score her first goal of the season off a terrific header against the Abuja based side in the 80th minute at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
Despite her side failed to extend their winning momentum at Rivers Angels last time out, the Nigeria youth international has reflected on her first goal, while vowing to inspire her side to a title triumph in the yea’s campaign.
“I feel grateful to Almighty Allah and feel good scoring my first Nigerian league goal of the season,” Afolabi told Nigeriafootball.ng.
“My goals for this season is for me to keep performing well to help my team in my own little way to be crowned as the winnner of this NWFL Premiership season.
“Yes I believe my team Delta Queens have the ability of finishing this season unbeaten if we continue with the high spirit and team work, together we can achieve our goals.”
Afolabi featured in all the four matches at the 2022 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in India and the bronze medalist is still savouring the incredible breakthrough and experience from competing at the global showpiece.
“Life after the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup is good, I’ve gained more experience and exposure coming from the world cup and this have added more values to my game,” she contined.
“The fame is also another factor dealing with after the world cup because people tend to recognize me when they see me outside and it’s a great pleasure representing my fatherland.”
After a 0-0 draw at Rivers Angels, Group A leaders Delta Queens are in action again on Wednesday when they meet holders Bayelsa Queens in the NWFL Premiership.
