Dominic Iorfa and Eugene Agagbe spark revival at Barau FC

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Two weeks ago, amidst the struggles of newly promoted Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Barau FC, former Nigeria forward and two-time Chief Executive Officer of Lobi Stars, Dominic Iorfa, was tasked with reviving the fortunes of the Kano-based club.
In tackling this daunting challenge, Iorfa turned to a familiar ally — his former Lobi Stars coach Eugene Agagbe.
The duo had previously struck a fruitful partnership that nearly earned Lobi Stars a continental ticket in the 2023/24 NPFL season.
Now reunited, Agagbe has been drafted in to assist Technical Adviser Ladan Bosso as Barau FC look to steady their NPFL campaign.
Agagbe’s rise in top-flight football was largely due to Iorfa’s trust in his abilities.
Handed his first opportunity as head coach of Lobi Stars by Iorfa, Agagbe exceeded expectations, silencing skeptics who had doubted the decision.
His impressive debut season earned him a two-year contract before Iorfa’s exit from the club.
Though later dismissed by Iorfa’s successor, Agagbe successfully contested his sacking at the NFF Arbitration Panel, with Lobi Stars still owing him contractual settlements.
Iorfa, known for taking on rescue missions, is once again putting his reputation on the line.
His ability to stabilize Barau FC will serve as a test of his capacity to deliver results in challenging circumstances.
The reunion has already borne fruit. Barau FC secured their first NPFL victory of the season with a 3-1 win over fellow newcomers Khun Khalifat at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba — a significant boost for their survival hopes.
