Hamzat Ojediran: Nigerian midfielder joins French Ligue 1 side, RC Lens

Sensational Nigerian midfielder, Hamzat Ojediran has completed a record deal to join French Ligue 1 side, RC Lens from Hungaruan side, Debrecen VSC, Nigeriafootball.ng reports. 

The former Golden Eaglets’ players who was part of Nigeria team for the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup has signed a four deal with the Orange Boys. 

He featured in all four games for Nigeria at the tournament hosted by Brazil haven been selected from Emmanuel Amuneke Academy. 

Ojediran moved to Albanian club side, KV Egnatia in 2022 before shifting his career development to Debrecen via a loan six months later. The deal was made permanent at the end of 2022/2023 season.

While confirming the deal, Debrecen informed that the deal taking Ojediran to Lens is  “a record for foreign players in the history of the club”.

The 20-year-old played a total of 34 matches for the seven-time Hungarian league champions and directly participated in six goals (3 goals, 3 assists).

Described as a balanced midfielder capable of defending while advancing, and very good at recovery and anticipation, he was voted Debrecen’s Player of the Season for 2023-2024.

Ojediran who has since assigned with Number 15 jersey at Lens will be the fourth Nigerian in the colors of French clubs joining Emmanuel Akwuegbu, Wilson Oruma and John Utaka.
