By Dayo Awoniyi

Former Nigeria captain John Mikel Obi has praised Eric Chelle’s appointment as the Super Eagles’ head coach, calling him the perfect choice to lead the men’s senior national team.

Speaking after the Super Eagles’ 2-0 victory over Rwanda, Mikel expressed his admiration for Chelle, stressing the coach’s impressive work with the Mali national team prior to his appointment.

“He is a coach I have always believed in because of the way he was transforming the Mali national team,” Mikel said.

“His first victory with Nigeria shows just how great his coaching career with the Super Eagles is going to be.”

The Chelsea legend emphasized that Chelle’s skills were the right fit for Nigeria, describing his appointment as a brilliant decision. “He truly deserves to be celebrated; his coaching skills are exceptional,” Mikel added.

Mikel’s endorsement comes after the Super Eagles’ commanding performance under Chelle, which saw them secure an important win over Rwanda.

The former midfielder believes that the victory proves the team is on the right path under Chelle’s leadership.

“He has proven that appointing him as Nigeria’s head coach was not a mistake but a brilliant decision,” Mikel concluded.

With the win, Nigeria moved up in Group C, keeping their World Cup qualification hopes alive. As Chelle continues to impress, both fans and football legends are optimistic about the future of the Super Eagles under his guidance.
