Leicester City’s survival battle in the English Premier League has suffered a huge setback as their Nigerian winger, Kelechi Iheanacho will be out of action for weeks due to injury.
The Super Eagles’ wide man has being a key player for the Foxes especially since the appointment of Dean Smith as manager scoring two goals in three matches in their run in to beat the drop.
Iheanacho sustained the injury during his side’s last league duel against Leeds United last weekend where they played 1-1.
In his build up to a news conference biggest clash with Everton and Dean Smith that the former Manchester City forward will be out for about four to five weeks due to injury but refused to rule him out of the season.
“He’s not great, he’s got a tear in his adductor muscle. It’s significant enough. I’m not going to rule him out for the rest of the season but it will be tough to get him back. Hopefully, we can,” Smith told media.
“He’s disappointed, scored two goals and was putting in good performances. Like always, it gives opportunities for others.
“It’s a blow, he came on at half-time against Man City and did ever so well. He did well in the Wolves game, scored the penalty, and his all-round displays have been really good.”
Leicester City are 18th on the Premier League log with 29 points accrued from 33 games.
