Kahveci ranks Osimhen’s impact on Super Lig above Drogba, Gomis, Van Persie

By Monsurah Olatunji

Former Villarreal striker Nihat Kahveci has boldly claimed that Victor Osimhen’s impact in the Turkish Super Lig is superior to that of Didier Drogba, Bafetimbi Gomis, and Robin van Persie.

Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, has been a revelation in the league, registering 20 goals so far and helping the Turkish giants maintain their position at the top of the table.

His performances have drawn widespread praise, with Nihat Kahveci pointing out how the 26-year-old has quickly established himself as a key figure in the Super Lig.

While Drogba scored 15 goals in 37 matches for Galatasaray, Van Persie netted 25 goals in 57 appearances for Fenerbahce, and Gomis bagged 46 goals in 71 matches for Galatasaray, none of them, according to Kahveci, could contribute as much in such a short time as Osimhen.

Unlike Drogba, Van Persie, and Gomis, who arrived in the twilight of their careers, Osimhen joined Galatasaray at the peak of his powers.

Coming off a spectacular season with Napoli, where he helped them win their first Serie A title in over three decades and finished as the league’s top scorer, Osimhen was in his prime when he made the move to Turkey.

“Stars like Drogba, Gomis, Mario Gomez, Van Persie came to our country, but none of them could contribute as much in such a short time as Osimhen,” Nihat said.

“Because they came in the last stages of their careers. Osimhen joined Galatasaray at the age of 26 when his market value was 100 million euros.”

Osimhen’s explosive arrival in the Super Lig has solidified his reputation as one of the most sought-after strikers in world football, with reports suggesting that the Nigerian forward could leave Napoli for a set fee of €75 million this summer, thanks to a clause in his contract.
