Manchester United Continues Winning Streak with Victory Over Leicester

Manchester United extended their winning streak in the English Premier League with a hard-fought 2-0 win against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday. Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi featured for the full 90 minutes, while his compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho, returning from injury, was named on Leicester’s bench. However, Nigeria winger Ahmed Musa did not make the Foxes’ squad.

The match remained goalless at halftime, but in the second half, substitute Marcus Rashford and Marouane Fellaini found the back of the net to secure the win for Manchester United. This victory takes them to nine points and puts them at the top of the league table, having scored ten goals without conceding.

The early stages of the match saw United going close to opening the scoring, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s shot deflected in the 13th minute, and Juan Mata’s goal ruled offside in the 18th minute. Leicester had their opportunities too, with Shinji Okazaki’s effort saved by David De Gea on 23 minutes.

In the second half, Manchester United was awarded a penalty in the 54th minute after a handball by Danny Simpson, but Romelu Lukaku’s spot-kick was saved by Kasper Schmeichel. However, in the 70th minute, Marcus Rashford volleyed in Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s corner to break the deadlock. Marouane Fellaini then sealed the victory in the 82nd minute by tapping in Jesse Lingard’s cross.

Leicester’s best chance of the game came in the 93rd minute when Andy King’s attempt was saved by De Gea. Lukaku had a late chance to redeem himself after his penalty miss, but he couldn’t beat Schmeichel.

All three Nigerian players, Ndidi, Musa, and Iheanacho, are part of the Nigeria squad for the upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon in early September.
