The Nigeria Football Federation has conveyed its profound sorrow regarding the passing of 22 athletes from Kano State, who tragically lost their lives on Saturday in an auto accident while returning from the 22nd National Sports Festival held in Ogun State.

“The Nigeria Football Federation, along with the entire Nigerian football community, is in mourning over the loss of these athletes under such heartbreaking circumstances. We share in the grief of the Kano State Government and all the wonderful people of Kano State during this unfortunate event,” stated NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), on Sunday.

The athletes perished just 50 kilometers from the city of Kano when their vehicle went off the road and plunged into a river.

“Our thoughts are with their families, friends, loved ones, and associates. We pray that the Almighty Allah grants them eternal peace and provides comfort to those they have left behind, as well as to the Kano State Government and the citizens of Kano State as a whole.”
