Elkanemi Warriors’ Technical Adviser, Aliyu Zubairu, has assured that the club will remain in good hands during his time away with the Nigeria U20 men’s national team, the Flying Eagles.
Currently in eighth place on the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table with 40 points from 27 matches, Elkanemi Warriors are aiming to secure one of the continental qualification spots by the end of the season.
However, Zubairu is set to miss several NPFL games due to his duties with the Flying Eagles, who will compete in the African U20 Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast next month.
Zubairu, who also serves as the head coach of the Flying Eagles, will lead the team into a tough Group B alongside Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa.
This commitment means he will be absent for much of Elkanemi Warriors’ domestic campaign, including crucial NPFL fixtures and the President Federation Cup.
Despite his absence, Zubairu expressed confidence that the Warriors will continue to perform well under the guidance of his assistant, Mohammed Mohammed.
“No, my absence won’t affect El-Kanemi Warriors. We have a capable assistant coach, Mohammed Mohammed,” Zubairu told Complete Sports.
“The technical crew shares the same philosophy, and don’t forget, I will leave a scheduled programme for them while maintaining communication from time to time.”
He further assured that his physical absence would not be detrimental to the team, emphasizing that the club’s objectives will remain intact.
Elkanemi Warriors will face Enyimba FC in Matchday 28 of the NPFL in Aba on Sunday.
