NPFL: Bendel Insurance wins three points appeal

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Bendel Insurance has won their appeal against the three points and three goals deduction previously slammed on the team by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The points were deducted for the assault on match officials in the NPFL game against Kano Pillars at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City.

NFF Disciplinary Committee decided during the meeting on February 12, 2025.

The Committee found that Bendel Insurance FC did not provide adequate and effective security during the match Day 11 fixture between Bendel Insurance FC vs. Kano Pillars FC in that some of their fans had access to the restricted areas.

It also found out that there was no evidence that the attack on match officials was grievous.

The deduction of three points and three goals from the accrued points/goals of Bendel Insurance FC by the NPFL was set aside by the Committee, on the ground that the assault on the match officials was not grievous as provided in Rule C11 of the Frameworks and Rules of the NPFL.

With this decision from the NFF disciplinary committee, Bendel Insurance has now moved up to 10th position on the current league standings with 31 points and a +1 goal difference.
