The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) organised a retreat for board members and staff on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.
The retreat was the first of its kind in the history of the league and took place at the Sandralia Hotel in Abuja.
It was aimed at training staff and reviewing the operations of the NPFL in the last year and developing strategies for improvement.
Speaking at the retreat at the Sandralia Hotel in Abuja, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau rated the performance of the NPFL high and advised that the league management make the training of staff an annual event.
“One of the most things is for us to have competent staff and them having good synergy with the board,” Gusau said as encapsulated by bsnsports.com.ng.
“I am also happy to be part of you, that the NPFL board are organizing the retreat because I know this is the type of thing we are working on, you can’t say you have a good secretariat without training and retraining the staff.
“I hope this will continue, let it not be the last, if possible let’s make it an annual event because the only way to assess the performance of our staff is by making sure we are giving them training at every point in time and is also important for us to consolidate more at our work and analyse it.
“And, I think after this retreat some of the lapses last season are going to see some changes to them, so I want to encourage you more on how we can contribute to organize some of this retreat for our staff and not only for the staff. We should also go back to the club because we have a lot of problems, with clubs especially those staff managing the clubs at various levels.
“So, is important for us to look into some segment of those staff working with the club. To ensure we give them some light retreat of what we really want, where we are going, and how we want to go about it.”
Also speaking, the Chairman of the NPFL, Gbenga Elegbeleye assured Nigerians that the league will witness more development under his watch.
During the presentation, the Chief Operating Officer of the league, Davidson Owumi highlighted the achievement of the NPFL in the last year and revealed strategies that would deployed for improvement of the NPFL.
Meanwhile, the 2023/2024 NPFL season is up and running with ten games played as Lobi Stars top the log with 20 points, a point ahead of Remo Stars.
Only Rivers United and Plateau United have an outstanding match in the league.
