NPFL MD 21: Remo Stars maintain top spot after thrilling win over Abia Warriors

Remo Stars remained league leaders after coming back from two-goals down to secure a 3-2 win in Matchday 21 in Ikenne on Wednesday.

Ayodele Ezekiel and Antoine Ijoma had given the visitors a two goal lead in the first 27 minutes.

Olamilekan Adedayo started the comeback for the Sky Blue Stars n the 38th minute while Malik Jabbar equalised in the 45th minute.

Eight minutes into the second half, Togolese international, Franck Mawena scored the winner for Daniel Ogunmodede’s side.

In Ibadan, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) moved to the second position after a 2-0 victory against Nasarawa United.

Kabiru Tijani and Ibrahim Umar scored for Gbenga Ogunbote’s side to propel the Ibadan Warlords to victory.

In Lagos, Ikorodu City avenged their previous loss to Kano Pillars with a 4-1 win.

Shola Adelani, Harrison Austin, Rabiu Ali (own goal), and Ayomide Cole converted for the Oga Boys while Abba Adam scored for the Sai Masu Gida.

El Kanemi Warriors edged Rangers International FC 2-1 to enter the top four fray.

Nasiru Salihu scored two goals to propel the 2024 President Federation Cup champions to victory as Savour Isaac converted for the Flying Antelopes.

In Yenegoa, Bayelsa United replicated the same scoreline as that of Ikorodu City.

The Yenegoa based side defeated Sunshine Stars 4-1 with Ifeanyi Ogba bagging a brace while Auwal Sadiq and Ofem Eyong also find the back of the net for the host while Waheed Adebayo pulled a goal back for Sunshine Stars.

In Uyo, Akwa United and Lobi Stars shared spoils in a 1-1 draw compounding both sides relegation battles.

Friday Apollos equalised Oyekachi Okafor’s opener for Lobi Stars.

Overall, Remo Stars top the log with 42 points after 21 games, six points ahead of 3SC which has an outstanding match, Rivers United (34 points), and El Kanemi Warriors (32 points).

Bendel Insurance (21), Lobi Stars (21), Akwa United (20), and Nasarawa United (19) occupy the bottom four spots.

There are four more games to conclude the matchday this week.
