NPFL: “We will fight till the end” – Finidi George remains upbeat about Rivers United’s title hopes

By Wale Mustapha

Rivers United’s Technical Adviser, Finidi George, has insisted that his team will continue to fight for the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title, despite trailing leaders Remo Stars by 11 points.

Currently in second place on the NPFL table with 43 points from 27 matches, the Pride of Rivers remain determined to push for the top spot as the season heads toward its conclusion.

George, who won the league title with Enyimba FC two seasons ago, believes that anything can happen in the highly competitive NPFL.

“We will fight. In this league, anything can happen. We had a bad run in two or three games, which held us back,” George said in an interview with Complete Sports.

“But we will fight till the end. Nothing is easy at this point. Nobody knows what is going to happen.”

The former Super Eagles coach pointed out that while Remo Stars are currently in a strong position, their lead could quickly diminish if they suffer a loss, just as Rivers United did earlier in the season.

“We see Remo up there, but they might lose a game and that might affect them. That was what happened to us,” he continued.

“We lost a game and started struggling, but I think we are getting back into our form, which is good for us toward the end of the league.”

Finidi emphasized that his focus is solely on his team’s performance, not on the league leaders.

“Remo are doing so well, but a lot can happen in 11 games. So, we will be focused on each game as it comes. We are not looking at Remo,” he added.

Rivers United will look to keep their title hopes alive when they host Niger Tornadoes in their next match on Sunday.
