By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has confirmed the return of the NWFL Nationwide, the third tier of women’s football in the country, for the 2025 season.
Last held in 2023, the competition was scrapped in 2024 in favour of the now-suspended States League.
NWFL COO Modupe Shabi said its reinstatement was approved by the NFF leadership under President Ibrahim Gusau.
“The reinstatement of the NWFL Nationwide is a significant step towards strengthening the women’s football pyramid in Nigeria,” Shabi stated.
“As the third tier, it plays a vital role in discovering and nurturing talent, giving grassroots clubs and players the opportunity to grow and aspire to higher levels.”
Registration opens August 19 and closes September 26, 2025, with no late entries accepted. Clubs are to submit applications via [operations@thenwfl.com](mailto:operations@thenwfl.com).
The competition will run from October 3–12, 2025, with the host venue to be confirmed.
