OFFICIAL: Etoile du Sahel snap up Flying Eagles star Auwal ‘Germany’ Ibrahim

By Dayo Awoniyi

Tunisian giants Etoile du Sahel have completed the signing of Nigerian midfield prodigy Auwal Ibrahim, popularly known as Germany, on a three-year contract — a major statement of intent from the North African powerhouse.

The club confirmed the deal on Wednesday, describing the 19-year-old as a cornerstone in their strategy of investing in high-potential foreign talents.

Ibrahim rose to prominence at the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt earlier this year, where he netted the winner in Nigeria’s opening group match against Tunisia and was named Man of the Match.

The display announced him as one of the brightest prospects in African youth football.

A versatile midfielder, Ibrahim is admired for his crisp passing, composure under pressure, and ability to dictate tempo — qualities that have drawn comparisons with Nigerian greats Mikel Obi and Sunday Oliseh.

Etoile du Sahel reportedly beat off strong competition from European clubs, who had been monitoring the youngster. Instead, the Tunisians convinced him with the promise of regular first-team action, a move expected to fast-track his development.

The former African champions have a proud record of grooming young stars, and believe Ibrahim could follow in those footsteps.

For Ibrahim, the transfer represents a crucial stepping stone. Regular football in Tunisia offers him the chance to sharpen his craft against seasoned professionals while staying firmly in the sights of European scouts.

As he settles into life in Sousse, Nigerian fans will hope Germany continues his upward trajectory — perhaps as the next Flying Eagles graduate to conquer world football.
