Oshoala, Plumptre & Kanu advocate more funding, support for Nigeria women’s league

Nigeria stars Asisat Oshoala, Ashleigh Plumptre and Uchenna Kanu have appealed for more support and investment in the country’s domestic women’s league to fish out more talents for the national team.
The Super Falcons trio made the adovocacy during the FIFA Women’s World Cup final Watch Party organized by the Nigeria’s Women’s Football League, NWFL in collaboration with LaLiga in Lagos.
The Spanish league organisers have been in collaboration with NWFL to develop women’s game in Nigeria and Oshoala, who currently play for Spanish and European champions is leading the call for more investment.
Five time African Women’s Footballer of the Year said that the women’s league in Nigeria is capable to unearth more talented players that will can be more successful than her and her team mates in the present Falcons team just as she called for relevant stakeholders to support the league board headed by Nkechi Obi.
“Nigerians should continue to give more support to the league for better results at the national teams,” Oshoala said.
“Nigeria League have produced players that are known globally, lets join hands together to support the league board,” she said.
Ann Chiejine who was a member of Nigeria women’s national football team at the inaugural 1991 FIFA Women’s World Cup and 2000 Summer Olympics added that “We are a little behind but with Laliga coming, their will be a lot of opportunities, investment for League.”
Delta Queens are the defending champions of the NWFL Premiership and currently representing the country at the WAFU-B qualifiers for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League in Benin City.
