South African coach Pitso Mosimane has refuted claims that he rejected the opportunity to coach the Nigeria national team, the Super Eagles.
Following the resignation of Jose Peseiro after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Mosimane was rumored to be a potential candidate for the head coach position.
However, the former South Africa tactician clarified that he never turned down an offer, emphasizing that no formal discussions or contracts were ever presented.
“I have to be honest; I never said no to the Super Eagles. Nobody can easily say no to the Super Eagles. That situation was not there,” he stated, as quoted by IOL.
“It has to be on the table. Sometimes when it’s not on the table, you need not get excited, and everything must be done right.”
Mosimane expressed his lifelong ambition to manage Nigeria, recognizing the significance of the role.
“Who would turn down the chance to coach the Super Eagles? It would have been a great opportunity for me, as I really wanted to work with a national team.”
Recently, Mosimane was appointed head coach of Esteghlal FC, a top club in the Iranian league.
