President Federation Cup: Nasarawa Amazons captain confident vs Rivers Angels clash

By Wale Mustapha

Captain of Nasarawa Amazons, Josephine Mathias, has expressed confidence in her team’s chances ahead of Saturday’s President Federation Cup final against Rivers Angels.

The highly anticipated women’s final of Nigeria’s oldest club competition will take place on June 28 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.

The match marks the second meeting between the two sides this season as the Amazons edged Rivers Angels 2-1 in their last encounter during the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Super Six.

Mathias acknowledged the strength of their opponents but remained optimistic about securing victory.

“It’s not going to be an easy game for us because we have played them in the Super Six and we won,” she said in a statement posted on the team’s official X account.

“But this time around it’s a different ball game, so we are not going to take it lightly with them. I know it’s going to be a tough game for us and for them too.”

The captain also highlighted her leadership role and the team’s readiness for the challenge ahead.

“As the captain, I motivate my players, talk to them, and they are ready for the match. We are here to give 100 percent and see what God will do because it’s only God that has the final say. But we will do our best.”
