Rangers manager explains Leon Balogun lack of playing time

Rangers gaffer, Philippe Clement has revealed the reason for Leon Balogun lack of playing time at the club.

The Nigeria defender has seen minutes had to come by due to the solid partnership of Robin Pröpper and John Souttar in the center back positions.

Clement said praised Balogun’s qualities while admitting he can’t change a formidable young center-back pairing that has grown in connections.

“We also have Leon Balogun still there who knows his role in the squad and he was excellent in that way and showing quality in training,” Clement told the Press at the Ibrox stadium.

“We have Nana (Neraysho Kasanwirjo) who can play centre-back, or Dujon (Sterling). The (Propper and Souttar) partnership has been good. And it’s also important with new players, you create connections and a partnership so they can get to know each other.

“You can add Jefte also in that way. Half of the defence are new. Our number six is new so you need to find the balance which is better and better.”

Rangers are third on the Scottish Premiership table with 13 points from six games. They will trade tackles with St. Johnstone in their next game on Sunday, October 6th.
