Rasheedat Ajibade: Super Falcons captain salutes Super Eagles win in Rwanda

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigerian women’s national team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has joined the celebration following the Super Eagles’ 2-0 win over Rwanda, which kept their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification hopes alive.

The Super Eagles, who had been winless in their previous four matches, secured a crucial victory in Kigali on Friday, with Victor Osimhen scoring both goals.

The Napoli forward, currently on loan at Galatasaray, opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a precise free-kick from Ademola Lookman before doubling Nigeria’s lead with a brilliant solo effort just before half-time.

Osimhen’s composed finish capped off a swift break, as he outran Rwanda’s defense and chipped the ball over goalkeeper Ntwari.

The win moved Nigeria up to fourth place in Group C, with six points from five matches. Ajibade, like many fans, was thrilled with the Super Eagles’ first victory of the campaign.

The Atletico Madrid forward took to her official X page to praise her male counterparts, sharing her excitement in response to a post from the Super Eagles’ official account, which read: “Mission Kigali done. Onto the Next One.” Ajibade replied, saying, “We no doubt una. Come on boys!”

Ajibade, who captains the Super Falcons, will be hoping the Super Eagles continue their strong form with another three points when they face Zimbabwe next on Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

A victory in that match could see Nigeria climb further up the tightly contested Group C standings.
