Sunday Oliseh praises Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala’s Ballon d’Or nominations

Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has showered praises Nigerian duo of Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala dollowing their Ballon d’Or nomination.
The nominees for the 2023 Ballon d’Or men’s and women’s awards have been released on Wednesday, with two Nigerian players making it to the high-profile 30-player shortlist in both categories.
Nigerian football stars Osimhen and Oshoala have been recognised for their outstanding performances in Europe.
Osimhen was instrumental last season for Napoli helping them secure their first Scudetto title in 33 years.
He also smashed George Weah’s long-standing goal record and claimed the Serie A top scorer title scoring 26 goals — the first African to do so and providing five assists for Napoli.
Oshoala, on the other hand, was spectacular throughout the season, winning the treble with Barcelona scoring 26 goals and providing six assists in all competitions. She aslo led the Nigeria to the round of 16 in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The 28-year finishing in the 16th position among the shortlisted 30 players last year but became the first female African player to get nominated.
Osimhen and Oshoala being nominated marks the first time in history that an African country has produced both male and female nominees for the prestigious Ballon d’Or award in the same year.
Oliseh took to his social media page to send blessings their way.
“These two players are great examples to our youths. God bless them!“
