Super Eagles kick off Morocco AFCON 2025 qualifiers against Benin Republic

By Wale Mustapha

Nigeria’s senior national team will begin their 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign with a home match against Benin Republic, as confirmed by fixtures released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Saturday.

The Super Eagles, managed by their former coach Gernot Rohr, will face the Cheetahs in the opening fixture before traveling to Kigali for their second match against Rwanda.

Both Matchday One and Two are scheduled for September. In October, the three-time AFCON champions will take on the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in a double-header.

The qualifying campaign will conclude with an away match against Benin and a home clash against Rwanda in November. The top two teams from the group will secure their spots for the AFCON 2025 finals, set to be hosted in Morocco.

The Super Eagles finished as runners-up in the last AFCON tournament, narrowly losing 2-1 to the host nation, Ivory Coast, in the final. The team is currently in search of a substantive coach following the resignation of George Finidi in June.
