UCL: Victor Olatunji makes scoring Champions League debut with Sparta Prague

By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigeria forward Victor Olatunji made African history following his impressive UEFA Champions League debut for Sparta Prague on Wednesday night.
The 25-year-old striker played a pivotal role in Prague’s 3-0 victory over Red Bull Salzburg, managed by former Liverpool assistant coach Pepijn Lijinders.
He became the man-of-the-moment after he wrote his name in the UEFA Champions League history with a stellar debut performance.
The young striker found the net just before halftime, doubling Sparta’s lead, and then turned provider in the second half, assisting the team’s third goal before being substituted in the 64th minute.
With a goal and an assist against RB Salzburg, Olatunji became only the third African player to achieve this feat on their Champions League debut, joining an exclusive list of Daniel Cousin (for Rangers vs Lyon in 2007) and Serge Aurier (for PSG vs Shakhtar Donetsk in 2015).
However, the Super Eagles-eligible is the first Nigerian player to accomplish this impressive stat line in his inaugural Champions League appearance.
