UCL: Victor Osimhen hat trick powers Galatasaray to historic win at Ajax

By Wale Mustapha

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was once again the star of the show as Galatasaray secured a landmark 3–0 victory over Ajax in Matchday Four of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

The Super Eagles forward, in sensational form for both club and country this season, caused havoc for the Dutch side at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

After being denied twice by Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg in the first half, Osimhen broke the deadlock early in the second half, heading in a precise cross from Leroy Sané.

He quickly doubled his tally five minutes later, converting a penalty after an Ajax defender handled the ball in the box.

That strike made him the first Galatasaray player to score in two consecutive Champions League matches.

Osimhen completed his hat trick with another penalty less than 15 minutes from full time, bringing his competition total to six goals and cementing his position as the tournament’s leading scorer.

The win marked Galatasaray’s first-ever victory on Dutch soil and extended the Turkish champions’ impressive start to their Champions League campaign, with Osimhen once again proving why he is one of Europe’s most in-form forwards.
