Victor Osimhen favours play 4-4-2 to accommodate more strikers for Nigeria

By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen has declared his flexibility to play in any formation that accommodates another striker alongside him up front.
The West Africans had already qualified for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire but would aim to secure the top spot in the group with a victory over Sao Tome on Sunday, September 10, although, many fans are eager to see other players tried upfront in a lineup despite Osimhen is the leading scorer in the qualifiers.
However, the Napoli and Serie A Golden Boot winner, who is deadly in front of goal and an assured starter, is willing to play anywhere and with anyone despite playing as a lone center-forward throughout his international career.
“For me, I don’t mind who I pair with because we’ve got amazing strikers: (Taiwo) Awoniyi is there, (Victor) Boniface is there, (Gift) Orban also, (Kelechi) Iheanacho is there also,” Osimhen told Pulse Sports.
“So, whosoever the coach decides to pair with me or to play with any striker, I’m cool with it. For me, the team is the most important thing, before any individual player.
“I can play 4-4-2, I can play any position. For me, as long as it’s a forward [role], I can pair with anyone. So we are really looking forward to it.”
