Wemimo Mathew: Remo Stars coach opens up on target for season

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

After four games without a loss, Remo Stars Ladies head coach Wemimo Mathew is having lofty dreams with the Sky Blue Ladies.

The Ikenne-based side won their third game with a 4-1 win over visiting Heartland Queens to go top of Group A on Wednesday.

The only missing piece to their perfect start was a 1-1 draw with defending champions, Edo Queens last week.

The former Sunshine Queens gaffer reflected on a hard-fought win over the Owerri-based side.

“It wasn’t easy because we played against a very good team. There is no doubt about it,” She said after the game.

“Heartland Queens is a good team. In the first half, they gave us a very tough time. When we came back in the second half, we were able to get it right.

“I had to let them know that this game is very important. We missed a lot of chances in our last two games and need to score more goals. They were able to calm down in the second half. In the first half, they were unable to calm down due to anxiety. I told them that they have to calm down so that they can put the ball into the net and they went there to do that.”

With a place in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six Playoffs in sight, Matthew has a key focus with the team in their second season in the league.

“Remo Stars Ladies have come to stay. Our desire from the beginning of the league is for us to win all matches. This is the fourth game now and we have not lost.” She concluded.

Remo Stars Ladies will next face Abia Angels at home in their next league match as they continue their lofty quest.
