By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Ahead of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, the decision on whether to play a 38 game season or an abridged format will be decided on Tuesday.

The 20 clubs of the NPFL will meet at their Annual General Meeting (AGM) to decide on the format of the next season in Abuja.

As a result of financial constraints and a lack of title sponsors, the clubs are considering an abridged season instead of a full-scheduled league.

The meeting comes ahead of the new season’s kick-off on August 31, 2024.

GTI has been bankrolling the league for the past two seasons have a huge financial burden ahead of next season.

Two seasons ago, Enyimba FC won the title ahead of Remo Stars in an abridged league format after the NPFL Super Six Championship in Lagos.

Meanwhile, at the AGM the League organisers are expected to announce a new sponsor IMG/Jvco a UK-based TV Production company according to information from www.sportsunlimited.ng

Top heads of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the Sports Minister have meet with the officials of the United Kingdom (UK) based company in London where it’s finalised their engagement with the Nigeria League.

At the end of the 2023/2024 season which was a full-fledged one, Rangers International FC clinched the title ahead of Remo Stars and will represent the country in the CAF Champions League.

Enyimba FC which finished third will play in the CAF Confederation Cup alongside the 2024 President Federation Cup winners, El-Kanemi Warriors.
