Adekunle Gold laments Manchester United’s Europa League defeat

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Adekunle Gold, a passionate Manchester United fan, expressed deep disappointment following the Red Devils’ narrow 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final held in Bilbao.

The defeat was a heavy blow for Manchester United, extinguishing their last realistic hope of qualifying for next season’s Champions League through the Europa League route.

The 2024/2025 campaign had been a turbulent one for United, who endured a shocking 17th-place finish in the Premier League — a position that normally excludes European qualification.

However, an expanded Champions League format combined with Tottenham’s Europa League triumph and Crystal Palace’s FA Cup success initially kept United’s European hopes alive.

Taking to social media, Adekunle Gold vented his frustration over what he called a “disastrous season,” posting a mix of lamentations and a plea for privacy.

He shared, “Me wey I don do AI since yesterday. No wam!” on X, accompanied by heartfelt messages pleading, “STOP CALLING MY PHONE!!!! I need space to cry. Please respect my privacy at this time. Thanks.”

This marks a historic low for Manchester United as they face the prospect of missing out on European competitions for the first time in several years.

Adekunle Gold isn’t alone in his disappointment; fellow Afrobeats star JoeBoy had also predicted a title-winning season for Manchester United at the campaign’s start.
