By Wale Mustapha
Technical Adviser of Sunshine Stars, Kennedy Boboye has disclosed that the club’s plans to participate at the upcoming preseason tournament in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State was to assess their readiness for the new Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL season.
The tournament tagged Governor Diri Cup will take place between Monday, August 12 and Sunday, August 18
Sunshine Stars will compete with the likes Kwara United, Insurance FC, Bayelsa United among others.
“The preseason competition will be strictly used to assess the newly recruited players,” Boboye told Sunshine Stars media.
“We have received some new players in our team from other clubs, so we are going to Bayelsa to test the players. The tournament is like a build-up for us; it’s not a must-win for our side, but if it comes, we will take it.
“The most important thing for us is to see how we can blend the new and old players together for a better performance.
“Despite the fact that we started a bit late, we are optimistic of a better season; we have good players who have joined us from other teams.
“We are going to use this preseason tournament to see how we are going to incorporate them perfectly into the team in line with our philosophy.”
Sunshine Stars escaped relegation from the NPFL last season.
