Nigeria cruise to big win over Australian club in pre-Women’s World Cup test

Nigeria senior women’s national team enjoyed a resounding 8-1 win against Australian Queensland NPL Champions, Lions FC, as they continue their preparation for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup on Saturday.

FC Barcelona forward, Asisat Oshoala scored two goals to propel Randy Waldrum’s side to a comfortable win.

Other goals came from Uchenna Kanu, Rasheedat Ajibade, Toni Payne, Ifeoma Onumonu, Halimatu Ayinde, and Monday Gift.

The nine-time African champions will begin its 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign against Olympic champions Canada on July 21 at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, Melbourne.

Lang Park, Brisbane will be the venue for its second game against co-host, Australia six days later before its last Group B encounter with debutant, Republic of Ireland.

Super Falcons will be making its ninth appearance at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

The country’s best result remained a quarter-final finish in 1999 and the Round of 16 appearance at the 2019 edition. They failed to make it past the group stage on six occasions in 1991, 1995, 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2015.
