In a match marked by interruptions, Bayelsa United seized a brief lead against Rivers United before heavy downpours halted play just seven minutes into the game.

Ekeson Okorie’s goal gave the Yenegoa-based side a 1-0 advantage before the suspension.

Upon the resumption on Tuesday, Kazie Eyinnaya swiftly equalized for the Port Harcourt visitors in added time of the first half.

However, Muniru Abdulrahman swiftly restored Bayelsa United’s lead, culminating in a 2-1 victory for the hosts.

The win is crucial for Bayelsa United as they secure their position above the relegation zone, sitting 16th with 39 points from 32 games.

Meanwhile, Rivers United, currently 13th with 40 points from 27 matches, face the challenge of completing five outstanding games before the league resumes, following their continental campaign’s premature end in the CAF Confederations Cup quarter-finals.
