Former Nigeria international, Bright Omokaro, has expressed his confidence in the newly appointed Nigeria head coach, Finidi George, predicting his success in the role.

Omokaro conveyed his excitement upon learning of Finidi George’s appointment, expressing certainty in his ability to excel as the Super Eagles’ new head coach.

Drawing parallels with other African countries that have triumphed in the AFCON under indigenous coaches, Omokaro emphasized his support for Finidi George’s tenure.

“In fact, I am thrilled by Finidi George’s appointment as the national team coach. I am confident he will excel,” Omokaro stated, as reported by NAN.

“Let’s consider the recent African champions like Cote d’Ivoire, who had their indigenous coach, as well as Senegal and other formidable teams. They all performed admirably. I fully endorse Finidi to succeed as the Eagles’ coach.”

Omokaro offered advice to Finidi, cautioning him to remain focused amidst any negative influences and to prioritize his responsibilities in order to bring glory to Nigeria, particularly with the significant expectations placed upon him.

“George boasts a remarkable football pedigree; his reputation precedes him. I encourage him to stay resolute and determined in his duties, striving to deliver the best results for the country,” Omokaro advised.

“Given the high expectations, especially as the Eagles prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, all eyes will be on him. Nigerians anticipate him to forge a formidable team, achieve positive outcomes, and resist undue influence in player selection.”

Finidi George previously served as an assistant to Jose Peseiro for 20 months, including during the 2023 AFCON campaign.
