Technical Adviser of Enugu Rangers, Fidelis Ilechukwu feels his side were unlucky following a 2-1 defeat in the Nigeria Premier Football League against his former club, Plateau United on Wednesday in Jos.
The Flying Antelopes went to close to sharing the spoils against their hosts in Jos but fell to a late goal scored by their former employee, Olawale Doyeni.
The Tin City side had taken the lead inside six minutes of the match through Moses Adikwu who headed home a threatening long throw from Daniel Itodo.
Rangers equalized before the half hour mark as Chidiebere Nwobodo reacted the quickest to stab home after goalkeeper, Bamidele Adeniyi had fumbled a Kazeem Ogunleye’s stinging long-range shot.
An unmarked Doyeni broke the heart of the visitors making Ilechukwu’s return to Jos ended in disappointment with a stoppage time finish.
A disappointed Ilechukwu said: “The game has been won and lost. A very good game from both sides. This was a game we proved that we are capable of getting some good results on the road but today.
“It was just hard luck for us as our best player on the field missed a sitter that would have turned the complexion of the match. That is football for you and we keep working till we get it right.”
Rangers, with fifteen points from eleven matches, will next play another away encounter against Bayelsa United at the Samson Yebowei Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa on Sunday, December 10, 2023.
