“Great finish” — Rangers coach praises Cyriel Dessers’ goal vs Manchester United

By Monsurah Olatunji

Rangers head coach Philippe Clement has lauded Cyriel Dessers for his impressive goal against Manchester United in their UEFA Europa League clash on Thursday night.

The Super Eagles forward, fresh off his first hat trick for the club in a 6-0 Scottish Cup victory over Fraserburgh, came off the bench in the second half against United.

Despite Rangers’ 2-1 defeat, Dessers’ equalizer stood out, showcasing his composure and sharp awareness.

The 30-year-old forward pounced on an error by United goalkeeper Jack Butland, scoring the equalizer with a well-taken finish after United had taken the lead.

However, a last-minute strike from Bruno Fernandes handed the Red Devils a victory at Old Trafford, leaving Rangers with nothing from the encounter.

Despite the loss, Clement was full of praise for Dessers’ contribution to the game. The Belgian coach hailed the calmness with which Dessers finished and noted that the team deserved at least a draw from the match.

“It is easy to go behind 1-0 to Manchester United and lose belief when you have so many young players on the pitch who don’t have experience at this level,” Clement said, as quoted by Rangers’ official website.

“We kept going and scored a very good goal. It was a great finish from Cyriel, but it is a pity we got a sucker punch at the end as the team deserved more, and a draw would have been a fair result.”

Dessers’ goal was a bright moment for Rangers in an otherwise disappointing result, as they continue their European campaign with hope for better outcomes in the future.
