Katsina United denies FIFA ban reports

By Wale Mustapha
Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Katsina United has debunked reports claiming that they have been banned by world football governing body FIFA from signing new players for the upcoming season.
Earlier in the day, some sports media reported that the Chanji Boys faced a ban due to non-payment of wages and salaries to former players whose contracts had been terminated.
In a statement posted on their X handle, the club clarified that they have not received any official communication from FIFA regarding the matter but have taken positive measures to address the issues.
“First, Katsina United has not received any official communication from FIFA regarding this matter.
“The purported letter was sent to a former member of the previous club management, not to the current management of Katsina United.
“However, the current management has validated the matter by reaching out to the player and has promised to settle the issue appropriately.
“It is important to note that the issue mentioned involving a foreign player from Niger Republic pertains to a previous management team; the former management failed to settle the player’s wages, leading him to seek justice through FIFA.
“The current management is actively working to resolve any outstanding issues inherited from the previous administration,” the statement read.
Katsina United finished in the top half of the just-concluded NPFL season and will be looking forward to consolidating on that performance in the next season.
