By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
The women’s football event of the 2022 National Sports Festival (NSF) holding in Asaba, Delta State capital were concluded on Wednesday with the penultimate game.
Team Imo won the gold medal with a 1-0 win over Team Lagos at the Jah Jay Okocha stadium, Ogwashi-Uku.
Mary Lucky scored the winning goal for Team Imo in the final match to clinch the gold medal for her team.
Team Lagos settled for the silver-medal thanks to Mary Lucky’s goal.
It should be noted that Mary was instrumental in helping Heartland Queens gain promotion to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.
The player scored four goals to ensure that the Owerri-based club returned to the top flight from the second-tier NWFL Championship earlier this year in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State from June 13 to 19, 2022.
Two goals against Dannaz Ladies during Heartland Queens’ 2-1 win were followed by another two goals for Mary as Heathland Queens saw off Beautiful Tours 2-5.
She emerged as the joint top goal scorer at the end of the 2022 NWFL Championship with four goals alongside Tolulope Omoniyi (Kwara Ladies), and Ugobest Osuji (Heartland Queens).
Lucky’s goal-scoring form is in no doubt as she once again stepped up for Team Imo in clinching a gold medal in the women’s football event of the 2022 National Sports Festival.
