Super Falcons trio set to lock horns in Uefa Women’s Champions League group stage

Three Nigerian stars will face off in the group stage of the 2022/2023 UEFA Women’s Champions League.
The draw ceremony which took place on Monday pitted the three remaining Nigerian players left in the tournament in the same group.
2020/2021 UEFA Women’s Champions League winners and Spanish Women’s league Champions, FC Barcelona, and five-time African Women’s Player of the year winner, Asisat Oshoala will face two other Nigerians in Group D.
The Spanish champions will face the German giants FC Bayern Munich, Halimatu Ayinde’s Swedish queens, FC Rosengard, and Christy Ucheibe’s Portuguese champions, SL Benfica.
Asisat Oshoala and FC Barcelona Femeni reached the final of the 2021/2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League, losing to Lyon.
Halimatu Ayinde, who recently joined Rosengard from another Swedish Allsvenskan side, Eskilstuna United, will seek to help the Swedish champions better last season’s feat by reaching the group stage of this season.
Christy Ucheibe and SL Benfica are making consecutive group stage appearances in the UEFA Women’s Champions League after getting to the same stage last season.
Monday’s draw means at least a club of any of the three Super Falcons of Nigeria players will make it to the quarter-final and be in pole position to win the title.
Asisat Oshoala remains the only Nigerian and African player to win the UEFA Women’s Champions League which she achieved with FC Barcelona two seasons ago.
